Strengthening Communities Through Research, Knowledge & Collaboration
At Bilal Community and Family Centre (BCFC), we believe that meaningful community development begins with understanding the needs, experiences, and priorities of the people we serve. Through research, collaboration, and capacity-building initiatives, we are committed to generating knowledge that informs programs, strengthens community services, and supports long-term, sustainable change.
As part of this commitment, BCFC is collaborating with researchers, including an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba, on two important research studies aimed at better understanding the experiences, challenges, and priorities of Black communities.
Active Research Initiatives
Black Community Needs Assessment
This study focuses on identifying the needs, challenges, strengths, and priorities of Black individuals and families.
By exploring community experiences and existing gaps in programs, services, and resources, the research aims to provide valuable insights that can inform more responsive community programming, strengthen service delivery, and support initiatives that reflect the realities and aspirations of Black communities.
Black Health Needs & Priorities
This study seeks to better understand the health experiences, needs, and priorities of Black communities, including barriers to accessing healthcare, gaps in services, and opportunities to improve health outcomes.
The research aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of community health priorities and support more culturally responsive, equitable, and accessible health services across Manitoba.
Building Capacity Through Knowledge & Partnerships
Beyond research, BCFC recognizes the importance of translating knowledge into meaningful action. Through partnerships with academic institutions, researchers, community organizations, and other stakeholders, we aim to strengthen our organizational capacity, support community-informed decision-making, and contribute to the development of more effective programs, services, and resources.
At the heart of our research and capacity-building efforts is a commitment to ensuring that community voices, experiences, and perspectives are recognized and reflected in the decisions and initiatives that affect their lives.
“Because stronger communities are built when knowledge, collaboration, and community voices come together.”
