Green Team Project: Growing a Greener Community

Project Overview:

The BCFC Green Team is dedicated to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for our community. Through hands-on projects and environmental stewardship, team members work to enhance our facilities while promoting sustainable practices and environmental awareness.

Situated on more than 45,000 square feet, the Bilal Community and Family Centre includes a soccer field, basketball court, and expansive green spaces that serve as gathering places for youth, families, and community members. The Green Team plays an important role in maintaining and improving these shared spaces so they remain safe, welcoming, and environmentally responsible.

In 2020, a team of nine Green Team members transformed the BCFC grounds through a variety of beautification and restoration projects. Their work included planting trees, creating gardens, landscaping outdoor spaces, and restoring community fields to provide vibrant, accessible spaces for recreation and community events.

Building on this success, the 2026 Green Team, consisting of six dedicated participants, continues BCFC's commitment to environmental stewardship. The team is actively engaged in maintaining green spaces, supporting sustainable landscaping, enhancing outdoor recreation areas, and contributing to the ongoing care of the facility while promoting environmentally responsible practices throughout the organization.

Inside the facility, Green Team members support environmentally responsible maintenance by recycling materials, painting and refreshing shared spaces, and using eco-friendly cleaning products to help reduce BCFC's environmental footprint.

Beyond maintaining the grounds, the Green Team serves as environmental ambassadors by encouraging sustainable practices and raising awareness about the importance of protecting our environment. Through education, community engagement, and leading by example, they inspire others to take meaningful actions that contribute to a healthier and more sustainable future.
