A Lifeline in Times of Transition
"Arriving from Africa as a refugee with my elderly mother and three children, I was emotionally exhausted by my eldest son's medical amputation and the crushing weight of navigating a new language. When caregiving duties forced me to miss language classes, my EIA benefits were suspended, leaving us unable to meet basic needs or secure housing.
The Newcomer Mobilization Initiative program stepped in as my lifeline, successfully facilitating for my mid-term re-entry into English classes and handling our housing applications. By providing constant translation support for hospital transitions, medical appointments, and school registrations, they helped me reconnect with essential services and confidently take my first steps toward independent stability and cooperative housing."
